As you know the New Year is coming and like most people I’ve begun to draft my list of practical and spiritual goals for the upcoming year. After all, the New Year is about new beginnings. It’s about taking the next step into an unpaved future, a future left open to your dreams and ambitions.
So why not be proactive about how and what you’ll give yourself to in this New Year, right?
Therefore, in the spirit of the season, I would like to offer up a thought to consider as you both reflect back and look ahead.
What if, as you plan and dream for the coming year, you set a goal to make Jesus a part of all the things you’ll do and say this coming year?
What I mean is, what if you’ll give him thought and prayer throughout the course of your day, in all your actions and interactions. What if?
How do you think that would change things in your life, and in the lives around you?
I love what 2 Peter 1.3 tells us when it states; “His (God’s) divine power has given us everything we need for a godly life through our knowledge of him (Jesus) who called us by his own glory and goodness.”
Amazing! Everything we need to know about how to operate in this world, from God’s perspective, is provided through our relationship with Jesus.
Jesus, Peter says, connects us to the heart and mind of the Father, and in turn, it flows to us and fills our lives.
This is why Paul encourages us to “not be anxious about anything, but in every situation, by prayer and petition, with thanksgiving, present your requests to God. And the peace of God, which transcends all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus” [Philippians 4.6 – 7].
I know this may seem easier said then done, but as I look to this coming year I can think of no greater goal to reach for. Nothing in this life will be able to fill you the way that Jesus will. Nothing in this life will be able to fill others around you, like Jesus flowing through you. So why settle for anything less? Just reach for it, and see how far and deep it will take you.
Happy New Year!
