In the Vineyard movement there’s a phrase that was coined by our founder, John Wimber, describing our movement’s view of what faith entails. The phrase goes: “Faith is spelled – R.I.S.K.”
Regardless of whether we’re comfortable admitting it or not, everything we do in life is a risk. There is not one area that we can commit ourselves too that doesn’t have some level of risk we take on: What school we’ll attend, or job we’ll take, whom we’ll marry or how we’ll parent. There are no guarantees in any of it.
That being said, the same thing applies to when it comes to living a life of faith, a life in-step with the Holy Spirit. Risk, will also be a part of our journey, and that’s what makes it so exciting!
Join us this Sunday as we continue our conversation on the “Core Values” of the Beaches Vineyard Church by taking a look at our third core value, dealing with the nature of faith and the way we as a church community live it out.
In the meantime, here is some questions we’d like you to consider: When you hear a statement like that, “faith is spelled – R.I.S.K”, what’s your first reaction? Do you get a sense of excitement or fear? How should the element of risk in our faith shape the way we embody it to the others?
