Following the calling God desires for us is a curious thing. I was a paid Vineyard pastor for almost 15 years. Now I own and run a bar full time, (I prefer to call it a pub). My wife and I were given the invitation to buy a bar in January of 2014. This seemed crazy! I can't be a pastor and own a bar! Can I? The rest of the year was spent asking that question in prayer, with my wife, with our parents, our friends, my mentors and my pastor. Here are some of the answers we heard.
“What is God up to?”
“I wouldn't let you do it. But it seems like the Holy Spirit.”
“Seems like everything God has been doing in your lives has been leading up to this moment.”
It seemed that God was inviting us to risk the most we ever had for the Glory of him and for the benefit of our neighbors. Our answer to him at the end of that year was “Yes”.
Pub is short for "public house" invoking the best offerings of a warm eclectic home with broad ranges of propensities and experiences shared and enjoyed from multiple generations. We felt the pull to see The BULL dressed up in opportunities where our neighbors would seek out or stumble upon The Kingdom, surprised by joy and experiencing punctuated moments of truth and life in real time. The BULL is tapping into a deep truth; that a flourishing community is created when we share our lives and stories so that we may know and be known by others.
