In your opinion, what is God’s objective with us? Why did Jesus die on the cross and why was he raised again? What was the purpose of the resurrection? For most of us, we would agree it wasn’t to make us more religious — to help us better “manage” our sins so that when we get to the end of our life God would let us in to heaven. Though that is one way God’s objective has been thought of. Another one is this — God sent Jesus to die on the cross and raise again to forgive us: to actually pay the penalty of sin in our place so that we could be in relationship with God. But if we’re honest, sometimes that explanation is a little tricky, too. What, exactly, does relationship with God mean? What if the objective of God is REGENERATION? The righting of all wrongs, the making new of all things — what the Scriptures call New Creation. And what if God’s objective for us is to make us literally new, to see us born again, born of Spirit rather than flesh so that we could be containers capable of holding God’s Holy Spirit, so that we could find our place in God’s New Creation? Join us this Sunday as we explore these questions. Peace!!
