In Matthew 5 you'll find one of Jesus' most famous teachings, the Sermon on the Mount. In this teaching, Jesus is laying out both the future and present-day implications of God's kingdom being revealed on Earth, in and through his people. It is here that Jesus issues a profound call to his followers to "let your good deeds shine out for all to see, so that, everyone will praise your heavenly Father" (Mt. 5.16).
Two important things should be noted about this statement for us to fully grasp what Jesus is saying. First, there is a "public work" that Jesus' followers are to embrace, that is, a work that goes beyond their own self-interest and blesses the public/community. Second, this "public work" isn't to be a signpost to their own individual piety but is instead to be a signpost to God's glory.
And this is one of the reasons we do LoveJax. Simply put, it's our way of getting out of the building and serving our city in order to shine a light on the presence of God's goodness and love.
We hope that you'll join us this week on our journey out.
