Jesus created us. He knows the deepest parts of us. Because of this, he also knows where we will need to most help to live lives fully submitted to him. And he has never been one to step down from having the hard conversations. He loves us enough to openly coach us in these areas. Jesus tells us in Luke 10:27 that the greatest commandment is to “Love the Lord your God with all your HEART and with all your soul and with all your strength and with all your mind”. He speaks of money and worldly possessions frequently because he knows these gifts can compete fiercely with him for first place in our hearts. This brings up so many questions! Why do we need to talk about this as a church family? How are we as a family doing in this area? How are we doing individually in this area? What is up with all of these “churchy” terms regarding money? What does God want with my money anyways? Can I trust God with my money? Can I trust the church with my money? Is God really the true provider and source of my provision? If so, can I trust him for this? Practically speaking, how does it work to “submit” my finances to God? As his disciples, we need to be willing to explore these topics as a significant part of our spiritual formation journey. Join us Sunday as we lay the foundation for our new sermon series: “Money Matters”. As you prepare for Sunday, begin to reflect on these 2 verses:
Luke 16:13 “No one can serve two masters. Either you will hate the one and love the other, or you will be devoted to the one and despise the other. You cannot SERVE both God and money.”
Matthew 6:21 “For where your treasure is, there your HEART will be also.”
Let’s explore this together!
