How did we get here?
Three years ago "we" began our search for a new home because we had severely outgrown the one we were in on Third Street. About 7 months ago our landlord, at the time, put us on notice that they were going to begin an aggressive search for another tenant who would agree to a long term lease, something we couldn't give them in light of the present size of our family. This notice meant we could be served at any moment with a 60 day notice to vacate the premises. Very soon after this notice the owner of the Atlantic Theatre, who had previously offered the possibility of leasing, made the offer official. We see this as an incredible provision with great potential for what Christ is leading us to do. The deal we made with the Theatre was extremely favorable; they left everything behind in a building that had not been updated to meet present day codes. This alone saved us $300K to $400K over having moved into similar facility not set up for "assemblies". This was an amazing gift.
Who are we and what are we doing?
We are the Beaches Vineyard, a community of ordinary people united by the desire to know and follow Jesus in our everyday life. We hunger for an intimate relationship with Him. We are attracted to Him, to the life He lived - to the life He offers. And, we are committed to helping each other in our pursuit of that life.
What has transpired since the move?
When we moved four months ago into our new home we knew we were going to have to live in it during the remodeling process. The first three months were spent obtaining the necessary architectural drawings, official inspector approvals, and then the permits. As you can see we've been able to do some cosmetic improvement and repairs to the lobby, book store, and corridor, but the main remodeling is just now beginning.
The advantages of this were:
- Saving thousands per month in paying double rent
- Living here has given us a better understanding of how to best use the facility. Some of our first concepts proved to be not so great, opening our minds to a better way.
- The construction of the nursery and children's classes is well on its way as we write. The Youth Theatre & The Dock will begin soon. This is what we are calling "Phase I".
What is to come?
Following "Phase I: will come additional phases which include:
- Minor work on the Burn theatre
- Relocating the Kitchen in order to increase the size of our auditorium to approximately 500 seats. The new location is better suited for the things we want to do
- Improving the large outside entry area immediately in front of the theatre to create an attractive and functional outdoor patio with tables and chairs under umbrellas. This will help facilitate hospitality and community among us and with our guests
- Last of all, enlarging and improving the Main Vineyard Theatre
Constant communication will come from many different sources; the pulpit, media power points, through email, handouts and a Kiosk in the lobby. We intend to keep you informed of where we are in the project, what Phase we're in, the funds raised, the funds still needed, etc.
Oh behalf of us all, Thank you for your prayerful participation.
