John Wimber, the founder of the Vineyard movement, used to quote a cultural proverb to us young Vineyard pastors that said, “Dance with the one that brought you.” It has rung true for me throughout all the years of my devotion to the Christ who brought me to this dance I call life.
Shania Twain captured this truth in a song with these lyrics;
"You got to dance with the one that brought you
Stay with the one that want's you
The one who's gonna love you when all of the others go home
Don't let the green grass fool you
Don't let the moon get to you
Dance with the one that brought you and you can't go wrong"
At the age of 65, and after 44 years of dancing, I’ve discovered it’s the partner, not the dance, that makes life all that it is. I’m still dancing, different song, but the same partner.
